Designed in the early 1930s by the famous engineer Rosatelli, the Fiat CR 32 was driven by a 12-cylinder V-shaped engine with 600 hp that allowed it to reach 375 km/h. Among the most famous biplanes in the history of aviation, it was characterized by extraordinary manoeuvrability. It was also robust and well armed for the historical period thanks to the two Breda-Safat 12.7mm machine guns. firing through the propeller disc. The Fiat CR 32 had its baptism of fire with the Legionary Aviation, during the Spanish Civil War, and immediately prevailed over Soviet-made monoplane fighters such as the Polikarpov I-16 that equipped the republican aviation departments. Thanks to the extraordinary manoeuvrability and training of Italian pilots, the CR 32 also prevailed on aircraft with the most modern and current design. Even the fast, Soviet-made bomber Tupolev SB-2, believed precisely because of its speed not interceptable, suffered numerous losses during air clashes with the "Chirri" of the Legionary Aviation.
